About the brief
The Backroom Brief is a daily markets paper. It covers crypto, rates, energy, equities and the geopolitics moving them, and it names its sources in the text, beside the numbers they support.
Two editions
Every issue comes in two editions. The full brief runs 18 to 43 pages. The Beginner Edition runs 6 pages and retells the same day in plain English, with a glossary for every term a newcomer would trip on.
How the views work
Each issue carries a handful of trade views. Every view states the reading that would confirm it and the reading that kills it, and the next issue marks what happened. Plenty of them fail. Failed views stay in the archive exactly as they were published, because an archive that only kept the winners would be worthless.
Corrections
When the brief gets a fact wrong, the correction is printed in a later issue and says which issue it corrects. Issues on this site are never edited after publication.
Not advice
The brief is commentary written for education and information. It is not financial advice, and nothing in it is a recommendation to buy or sell anything. Markets can move against any view in it.
The archive
The archive starts on 1 September 2026 and holds 14 issues so far. New issues are added the morning they are published. Follow along with the RSS feed.
